.static.flickr.com/4127/4978262288_25e11928d1_t.jpg"] .x. This “one trip” a month thing was kind of lame, but Kali would damn well enjoy every minute of her time on the Other Island at the café. It was small and quaint, with lots of color on the walls and the scent of espresso so strong that it even lingered and fallowed you with whispery fingertips. Because all of her acquaintances had gone to the Amusement Park, Kalianne was left alone to her Caramel Macchiato at a little table. The large window to her right let in pale warm sunlight, while her view to the left was the entrance. Perfect, she thought to herself, not only can I “enjoy the sun and this book I am not reading,” but I get to people watch too.
In a short amount of time, Kali became bored with that, too. Everyone was spending this nice day at the Park or even at the beach. Only espresso mad people (which included herself and the teachers) ever came to the café on such a nice day. It was really because Kali had an addiction; she was like a cocaine addict but for coffee, and it had been a long while since she had her fix. But now said espresso made her feel jittery, and the lack of sociability caused that to transform into unwanted (or needed) anxiety.
The book before her was barely held together by a warn spine. She’d read this book over and over again since she was eleven, and still Kali could not go a month without reading through it. The cover had fallen off and disappeared, and a few of the back pages where missing. Taking a sip of her hot coffee, Kali‘s hazel cat-like eyes flickered to the door. In walked a teenage couple, hand-in-hand, and wearing stupid happy grins on their faces. With a grimace, Kali turned her gaze toward the window and scanned the scenery. A few shops blocked the horizon, but in the distance you could definitely see the beach with the blue waves crashing against the sand. A long sigh escaped her lips. God or the Devil, was she bored!
Shrugging back into the chair, Kali flipped open her book to a random page. The spine bent effortlessly, and the pages where barely whispers of the paper they‘d once been. Tucking a curling strand of her long dark hair behind her ear, she tried to remain content. Her nerves buzzed with a nervousness that came with boredom, and her mind raced with things she couldn‘t control. Snapping the book shut in frustration; Kalianne leaned forward on her elbows with an exasperated groan. She wished for someone interesting to waltz into that door and rescue her from her thoughts. Anyone.

It was one of those days where little could put a smile on her face. One of those days where she was sure her heart might just break. In the end she really was an emotional creature, just as were most human beings whether they pretended that it existed or not. She was one that would rather keep these things in, but there was always an air about her just as everyone that had a problem. Though her problem was rather small it wasn't at all small to the woman. She had always been a mother's girl if only because they were pushed together in that way. The loss of her father had made her closer with the woman and though she knew her mother was commonly very busy even at this time of the year she wished she could have made a trip back home. Ohio wasn't much this time of the year, at least nothing like this. But as it was said, home is where the heart is. And he heart ached to be at home.
Where she could bake with her cousins and their family, though small, could get together and enjoy Christmas. There would be all kinds of sweets and good food, and at the end of the meal on Christmas Eve everyone would get together and trade presents. She'd had to send them out this year, but it was a hollow feeling to give when you couldn't see their expressions. She was always quite creative with the presents she sent out and her mother always dispensed a nice amount of cash to help with ideas. The internet was a lovely place to find gifts and it had been a good year. She'd even gotten a few gifts in return from family members and each card had spoken of how they would miss her.
And thus she had treated herself to a trip to the other island. It was a nice December afternoon and she was going to enjoy herself whether her heart had a say in it or not. She would of course stop at her favorite place which for her was the cafe. If the food and coffee they served there wasn't so good then she was sure she'd go just to see the many people that came through. It was interesting the types of people you found within the area. Most of them were ocean goers, not much like her. She wasn't much of a swimmer. Maybe it was the fly in her that didn't enjoy the water. She couldn't quite speak for her counter part. Once inside the building she brushed just past a young couple, but it seemed they were so into the other that they barely noticed her.
So much that as he turned, not looking where he was going he knocked into her. Enough that his coffee splashed directly on her shirt. She let out a pained yell as the hot liquid quickly went through her shirt and landed on exposed skin. She was quick to take off the shirt that had gotten coffee on it, lucky that she had on an undershirt, at which had been missed. It was her chest that was now raw from the heat. The young man looked at her a moment, and her face went a light red. She couldn't help but feel a little angry.
“Please watch where you're going next time. You're quite lucky that wasn't much hotter or...”
And there was a pause. What would have happened anyway? It wasn't against the law to accidentally spill coffee.
“Or what, exactly?”
She snapped her eyes in his direction, “Or I would have gotten a second degree burn and I would have retaliated. I didn't even hear an apology you little prat.”
Oh my, she was in a rather bad mood, wasn't she? If it had been any other moment she might have felt bad for her reaction. But this was a day of emotions, and nothing less. Word Count: 669 Notes: :] Hope this is okay sweetie. Song: Memories.

.static.flickr.com/4127/4978262288_25e11928d1_t.jpg"] .x. Kali had lost herself in the corners of her mind. Distant memories of the most random kinds. The feel of the summer heat; the scent of horses and leather; David‘s easy grin on his twelfth birthday. All the little things she couldn‘t enjoy while away at school. Her mother‘s cooking wafting warm and delicious from the kitchen, her father‘s daily discussion of the going‘s-on in his District and Yellowstone. There where things she‘d not get to see or be around for, like her brother‘s thirteenth birthday. Oddly, these thoughts and reminiscences didn‘t make her sad at all.
Even though she‘d been at this school for a short time, she already felt an affinity. Perhaps it was because she felt a sense of belonging because of all the other shifter students. They knew what she was going through, because they themselves have had to endure the problems, the obstacles, the urges. However, none of these thoughts prevented her from maintaining the lonesome feeling. Kali had yet to find someone who even enjoyed one of the things she loved. Friends where an abundance here, but it was difficult to truly enjoy time spent doing things you only liked because there where other people in time. Consumed in these thoughts she took a sip of her coffee, a dazed expression as she looked at the door without seeing it.
A painful yelp brought her attention back to reality, her eyes already on the scene at the entrance of the coffee house. The cozy (and incredibly insipid) couple had managed to ram right into a young woman a few years her senior. She was tall and very pretty with a serious face, gray eyes, and strait light brown hair. And now she had coffee all down the front of her shirt. The woman ripped off this shirt rapidly, another undershirt kept her body mostly covered, but even at this distance Kali could see the angry red stains on the pale flesh of her neck.
The flush of her cheeks warned of anger to come, but her voice held controlled wrath. She snapped out some angry words, but really there was nothing the woman could do. The young man hadn‘t apologized, and was behaving rather abominably rude. Her own anger gripped her quickly. The couple was already insufferable, and to act so condescending when it was also partly his fault? Things such as these where something Kali did not, and would not tolerate today. Grabbing a napkin, she stood up and shoved the guy aside. “Whether or not she could do anything about it, you could at the very least apologize. If not, why don‘t you and your pinched faced girlfriend just leave?” Obviously it wasn‘t one of her best comebacks, but Kali was mildly pleased at the offended look on both their faces.
Turning her attention onto the other woman she smile confidingly, almost like they‘d shared some silly encounter. Which in a sense, they had. Handing over the napkins, her eyebrows knitted in natural worry. “Are you alright? I‘m so sorry that they where so rude!”
(( perfect and thank you :] ))

There were few times in her life that she found herself unable to control her temper. She was generally a very calm person that took everything in stride. With a grain of salt, if you may. But this wasn't one of those days. Call it loneliness. Her mother had been the person she'd clung hard to when she'd come to the school with letters galore. That had soon become a weekly and eventually a monthly thing, but even now she loved her mother more than anyone else in her life. Her mother was the person she wanted to be, but only better. As terrible as that sounded. She wanted to be professional in her mannerism, intelligent, as she was and though she respect her mother for her climbing of the corporate ladder she also wanted to have more than money, she wanted to have a helping hand behind her. She wanted to be renown for making some sort of discovery or even just for helping the people around her.
She wanted to touch lives, not bite their heads off. And maybe she should feel bad, but this boy had been ratty and his little girlfriend wasn't helping the matter in the slightest. She took a deep breath as she watched the boy, intent on finishing this conversation quickly so she could leave and enjoy herself elsewhere. But it seemed that fate, if you may, had found someone else to take up for her. And she was ever grateful. She couldn't manage a smile just yet but she kept her gaze between the two, happy that someone else could insult them without her having to feel bad about it later. She was never good when it came to offense. She had one of those soft hearts that didn't enjoy hurting anyone no matter how much they deserved it. But she definitely appreciated with others had no issue with it. It wasn't that they weren't good people, in fact she believed that every person had the ability to be a good person. It was just the simple fact of personality and their differentiation.
She watched the couple retract from the two pretty quickly, deciding they weren't going to be arguing anymore. She was happy with this and managed to give the girl a thankful smile.
“Oh, it's not your fault. I think he was trying to impress her. Though, I'm not sure I'd be very impressed by rudeness, you can never understand our male counterparts, can we? But thank you. That was very kind of you.”
The girl seemed to actually care. By expression, voice and actions. As if she had a motherly touch to her, which was quite sweet if you thought about it. It was upon decision that she would like this girl, not that she found many people that she didn't enjoy. She took the napkins in hand and gently patting her chest and neck. She took a glance at her shirt, patting it down a few times only to realize that wouldn't help at all. She sighed lightly, presenting the stain so the girl could see.
“I'm sure I can get that out if I work on it myself and don't send it off to be cleaned at school.”
And there was a pause, “Are you from the Academy on the other island?”

.static.flickr.com/4127/4978262288_25e11928d1_t.jpg"] .x. Kalianne wasn‘t normally an intolerable person; when it came to someone‘s views and opinions she‘d listen intently. However, she flat out refused to tolerate indecent or rude behavior. There was never a need for it. And usually Kali didn’t involve herself with other peoples disputes (she considered herself as Canada), but today she just couldn‘t handle it. Oddly enough, things of this nature only occurred when her inner beast was being especially obnoxious that day; today she was curled up in the darkest recesses of her mind, watching intently but making no move to interrupt. The couple retreated quickly, grumbling as they went. Apparently the insult was enough to be rid of them, she thought absently. Returning her attention to the woman she noticed a thankful smile curl her lips.
Kali‘s smile grew wider and reached into her golden-hazel eyes as the woman trounced into flustered speech. Towards the end of her verse, Kali shrugged her shoulders slightly and said with happy forbearance “The whole thing was rather ridiculous, wasn‘t it? And no worries, sometimes we all need a little back up!” The natural worried furrow between her slanting brows deepened slightly as the woman revealed the stained shirt. That particular trait she got from her mother; the woman wore that look almost constantly because of her husband and sons easy going manner. They let things happen without complaint, but such things annoyed Kali and her mother. At her next vocalizations, Kali’s eyes roamed back to the woman’s façade; intent hazel meeting wary gray. Usually if a human asked about which Island, they never really referred to it as an academy. But to be on the safe side she drew a non committal smile and said, “Yes, I am. Are you?”
Upon saying that, her cat-like paranoia kicked in. Hazel attention circled the room like a predator to the prey. There where three humans manning the espresso machines, one at the register flirting with a boy she knew was a shifter, and a group of four girls chattering in the corner booth. It wasn‘t as if either she nor the other woman had said anything incriminating, but it was much better to be safe than sorry. Vision returned to the thin woman before her, the smile still intact. Indicating her open seating in the warm midday sun, she opened her pale pink lips and voiced her verse in respectful tones. “My name is Kalianne, but Kali is okay. If you‘d like, you could join me at my table? I was just doing some reading but I would love some company?” And people watching, she laughed internally, but she doesn‘t need to know that!
(( really? I could say the same of you :] This one isn't as good, but I was in a hurry ): sorry! ))
