The mall was packed, as usual for this time of year. The post-Christmas sales were in full swing and people were taking advantage of the deals on offer. Unfortunately this lead to a lot of crowding, and people had to push past each other to get where they wanted. People could go pretty crazy when there was a chance for them to save money. Moving through the crowds or, more accurately, being pulled along by throngs of people, was Daniela. She, like many others, was here doing some after Christmas shopping. Unlike many of the others she was doing it for the entire family. Daniela was famous among her relatives for being the only one willing to brave the horrors of the sales. As such she had been given a list by her sisters and even her parents and dropped off at the mall to face the dangers alone. She didn’t mind though, it was all right for the most part.
As it turned out today had been a pretty good day. The crowds were there but they weren’t as bad as they probably had been earlier in the week. Daniela had managed to get most of her shopping done with no problems. The only difficulty she was having now was getting where she wanted to go with two arms full of shopping bags. Daniela had never been known for her agility, and moving through crowds was not her forte, as such she had to float along in the wake of other people and hope they were going in roughly the same direction. If not she risked bumping into people.
It had been a good few hours since she had first gotten here, and Daniela was feeling pretty hungry. Luckily the food court wasn’t too far away. Daniela, moving at a snails pace behind an old couple, gradually made her way over towards the smell of food. It took a while, but she got there. It wasn’t quite so busy here as among the shop, and the shifter found she could move freely without bumping into people. It was amazing how many people there were in such a small place. Just as Daniela was beginning to enjoy her newfound freedom of movement she was confronted with another problem. Both of her arms were weighed down with bags, leaving her with no free hands. Pausing for a moment, Daniela considered how she was to get food and carry it to a table.
Though she had practically stopped moving she was still perched on one leg, mid-step. She had planned on only stopping for a second or two, so her precarious stance wouldn’t have mattered. As it happens, stopping dead in the middle of a walkway of any sort, especially during a sale, is a very bad idea. It was barely a second before someone walked into the back of the girl, toppling her like a bowling pin. She put her arms out to defend herself from the onslaught of the floor, which served only to spill the contents of most of her bags, sending her shopping scattering out over the floor. Binders and pens and other items now dotted the floor around her. Luckily she had been pretty close to a wall, so she could move her new belongings over to the side with ease and allow people to pass around her. She didn’t look up as she did this, wanting to get out of the way as soon as possible. Once she had gotten everything out of the way she set her now mostly empty bags on the floor and began to refill them, still not looking up to see who had bumped into her, even if they were still there. She was still in the way and it was more important that she stopped obstructing people.
