I'M BRUISED AND SCARRED save me from this broken heartALL MY LOVE WILL SLOWLY FADE & F A L L A P A R T SHinya nodded to his answer. “I understand. It makes sense.” Shinya shook his head “I don’t think it’s silly. It’s better to be safe than sorry.” Shinya was really doing biology in case he needed to talk about the human body in one of his books and because he just thought the subject was interesting. Shinya understood where the teen was going and that was the answer he had guessed. “Mind me asking what other classes you have? Since we are kind of on the subject of classes.” Shinya figured most of them had to do with law enforcement. But he was curious which ones he took. Shinya walked next to Renard, he saw the kid take out a ring from his pocket. Shinya saw that it was the only one he was wearing. He knew it must be a ring that meant something to the kid. “What’s up with the ring?”
Shinya nodded, he was glad this kid wasn’t a show off. He didn’t like those kinds of people at all. They annoyed him because they would either be bragging or showing off. They also made other people to show off by saying ‘you can’t do this’ or something along those lines. A kid had done that to him once when he was younger he had ignored the kid and told him to leave him alone. After that the kid started to pick on him till he couldn’t take it anymore. He had winded up suspended from school for a week and the kid ended up with a broken nose and had to get stitches from him throwing a throwing star at the kid and hit the kid’s upper arm. Though he had gotten out much worse thanks to his adoptive parents at the time, though his mentor understood him which made him feel better. “You can’t afford to get your outfit dirty but he can afford the outfit?” This somewhat made sense and yet still made him confused. Why buy the outfit if there was a chance something would happen to it that he couldn’t afford? That was the way he was looking at it though.
Shinya looked at the kid “So why don’t you try being yourself to the best of your ability? Is this snobby look really who you are? I don’t dress this way to make myself look intimidating. This is what I want people to see me as. My style is who I am on the outside.” Though granted if you knew him well enough he was much sweeter than he looks or even first acts.
Shinya smiled at how happy the kid looked. Shinya could tell he was happy by his body language. Shinya could read body language very well it was something he was taught in his sessions with ninjitsu. Shinya’s body was tense; though it was always tense ready for anything. Now that he thought about it this was the first time he had smiled since his mother died and that was about two years ago. “What movie are we going to see?” He didn’t mind picking when he got there to see what movies there were that were in the horror genre. He knew the movie theater wouldn’t have anything fish related and he refused to eat anything that had any kind of meat in it. He wondered if the kid could afford the food and the movie if he couldn’t afford to get his outfit dirty. “I can pay for the food and tickets for both of us. I don’t mind” He stated simply. He wondered if the kid’s pride would get stuck in his throat so he would refuse Shinya’s offer.
Shinya was wondering if he should be hurt by the way the kid acted and his questions. Shinya sighed; he couldn’t blame the kid he couldn’t blame anyone. Not that he wanted it to be a date or even hoped it would. He was just happy to have company; he was feeling lonelier each day. Though now that he thought more of how the kid reacted he could tell the kid was embarrassed. Shinya bit his lower lip wondering if he could cross out the kid being straight. He shook his head “Relax, I was teasing. I don’t have any intensions on thinking this is a date. Besides you aren’t really my type.” Though he wasn’t sure if the last part was entirely true or not; as far as he was concerned he didn’t have a type. Though granted he rarely felt that way toward anyone.

“Well, I’ve got Law 103 as my homeroom, Statistics 101 period 2, Criminal Justice period 3, you should know what I’ve got for period 4, period 5 is Theory 101, and my last class is Gymnastics.” Renard replied, trying to think of a movie for the two of them to watch while they walked. However, Shinya, who asked Renard about his family ring, interrupted his thoughts. “What? Oh! It’s a ring my great grandfather wore, and it’s like my family is trying to start a new tradition by giving the first born of the family this ring. It’s kinda stupid…but I like it.” Renard replied, leaving out the part about how he had stolen it from his sister, whom he felt had no right to hold onto something so precious to their family. Knowing her, she’d just sell it off at the nearest pawnshop, or lose it somewhere. “This get up is a hand-me-down, okay, and I only wear this at school. Of course, that doesn’t mean I’m going to run around town in my sweaty gym clothes. And, before you ask, I wear this so that everyone can see that I take my education very seriously, and treat it with as much respect as possible,” Renard replied, shifting his vest a little so that it would cover more of his front torso, and proceeded to button it, leaving the last button unbuttoned. After all, he needed to remain comfortable, and he felt slightly restricted when all of the buttons were all buttoned up. “Pay? No no, the food is all on me. My mom owns a restaurant just down the block from the movie theater. She serves plenty of fish and fruit there, so I’m sure you’ll find something you like,” Renard replied, glad that his mother’s restaurant was going to finally see some new customers. After all, her restaurant was still relatively new, and had yet to garner all that much attention. Not that she was a horrible cook, her cooking was amazing! It was just something that had gone wrong with the marketing…or something; Renard couldn’t remember exactly what the problem had been. “It’s up to you. I have no idea what’s good at the theater now, so I guess we’ll just have to find out,” Renard said, moving his dark brown hair out of his bright, vibrant blue eyes with his right hand. As he heard Shinya explain that he had no intentions of making this a date, Renard could only sigh. He didn’t know if it was a sigh of relief or frustration, but either way, something started to stir in him, and it was at this point that he couldn’t help but ask Shinya a question. “Look, could you please stop teasing me about that? It makes me feel…uncomfortable,” Renard said, pausing a little, as if he had trouble accurately describing how Shinya’s “teasing” was affecting him. WC: 488

I'M BRUISED AND SCARRED save me from this broken heartALL MY LOVE WILL SLOWLY FADE & F A L L A P A R T Shinya kept walking in silence as he listened to the kid. He nodded his theory about the kid’s classes revolving around law enforcement was right. Though he didn’t get the gymnastic part “Why gymnastics?” The kid didn’t have anything to say about him doing dancing when he did gymnastics. Shinya didn’t think anything was wrong with gymnastics for a guy other than the tights part. He couldn’t picture Renard in tights nor did he want to. Though Shinya said no more on the subject of classes. He wasn’t the type to say things about himself; unless he was answering a question. Shinya had a high curiosity for the kid which was new to him for he was rarely curios about people.
Shinya looked at the ground, he thought it was a nice idea to pass something down that has been in the family for years and will still be in the family for years to come. Even if his father gave him something that was in his family for years he wouldn’t feel right about it. He wasn’t his father’s son by blood nor was Shigemi. Shinya would never feel the blood to blood closeness at least not with his father. His mother he had felt that closeness. He wasn’t sure why that was but he had an idea. His father wasn’t there for him as much as his mother, his father didn’t like him taking the path of an author and after his first adoptive father though Shinya didn’t see that man as his father just made him less trustful of men. This was the same for his brother just Shigemi was afraid of woman not just less trustful of them that was why he was gay or at least was one reason. “That’s nice not stupid.” Was the only words he spoke and could only think of saying. He was jealous of the boy and he was not going to deny it.
Shinya sighed; “Why do you care what people think? Each person is just a stone on the shore in your life and you’re the water that laps at them. I can tell you most people seeing you in the outfit are going to think your rich not that you respect your education.” He respected his education but he doesn’t flaunt it by dressing the way the kid did. He dressed the way he was most comfortable. “But if that’s the way you want to dress I can’t stop you nor am I going to try. But are you really comfortable wearing that?” Shinya doubted the kid was comfortable wearing that, but just because he wasn’t didn’t mean the kid wasn’t. Shinya just thought that respecting your education shouldn’t be flaunted. Though most things he thought shouldn’t be flaunted and he hasn’t flaunted anything yet. But if he had met this kid in the outfit he would have just left him thinking he was some snobby rich kid that thought he was better than everyone else.
Shinya looked at him and nodded. The kid’s pride didn’t get stuck in his throat like he thought it would. At least that’s what it seemed. “That sounds fine” again he was quite jealous of the kid; though he was jealous of anyone who still had their mother. Even though it has been two years Shinya still missed his mother as greatly as he had when she first died. Most people would have been jealous that his mother was an owner of a restaurant but not him. His father owned a couple of restaurants in the little town they lived in, in Oklahoma. Not to mention his brother wanted his own restaurant as well as his own cooking show, but Shinya wasn’t sure his brother’s dreams were going to come true but he had no right to say so out loud because you never know what will happen in the future.
Shinya shrugged “I have no idea either. So I guess we will have to wait till we get there to see.” Shinya hadn’t been to the movie theater in a long time and never thought about going so he never paid attention to the ads for movies. His hair covering half his face like it always does and how Shinya liked it. Shinya felt a breeze, blowing his hair over his face he moved his hair behind his ear where most of it stayed. The rest he held back with his hand. Shinya looked at Renard and nodded “very well, you could have asked me that from the beginning and you wouldn’t have had this problem now. Oh making you feel uncomfortable was where I was heading” Maybe the kid was straight after all. He couldn’t tell he would have to keep his mouth shut and find out in its own time. Though he couldn’t help but remember the girly stance the boy had made back in the gym. He hasn’t seen any straight guy that he knew of do the pose.

“So I can stay limber, and none of the other P.E. classes really caught my attention. I mean, I already to Self Defense class, and I’m already training in a martial art, so the only thing that I found on there that would help me improve myself is gymnastics. Besides, it helps with my parkour and lets me work on my balance,” Renard replied, knowing full well that he didn’t look like the kind of kid who would enjoy gymnastics. Well, looks were very deceiving, and Renard was glad that he was able to hide some aspects of his personality much more than others. Renard listened quietly to Shinya’s statement on how he shouldn’t care about what people think, and that his outfit made him look like a rich snob. He paused for a moment, and then replied, “Well, using your imagery, you must know that, even if people are just pebbles, you can’t necessarily read their minds, can you? What you may think looks snobbish may look professional to someone else. And I will have you know that this outfit is very comfortable…but how about we change the subject, eh?” Renard really didn’t want to start an argument with Shinya, especially over something as petty as clothes, but after hearing all of the things Shinya had told him about how he dressed and how he would always add a statement to try and keep Renard calm. It was essentially like calling Renard a wealthy brat, then turning around to say “no offense”. Renard hated such a phrase, as it was entirely pointless to say. If one didn’t want to offend another, then it would make sense if they refrained from saying anything on the subject. Unless they really meant for the person to take offense, which saying “no offense” would be a complete and utter lie. Renard smiled, the sign of the Golden Apple catching his eye as the duo approached the relatively small restaurant. Renard looked over to Shinya and stated, “Here it is. C’mon, let’s go find a table.” Renard opened the door and held it open for Shinya before following him inside. A woman who appeared to be in her twenties walked up to the two, smiling at them as she spoke, “Renard! How’re you doing…and who’s this fellow?” The woman had long, shiny blonde hair that fell down to the small of her back, and was tied up in a ponytail, away from her nicely tanned face, her green eyes shining somewhat in the late afternoon light. The nametag on her yellow T-shirt had a gold colored apple on the corner, and had her name printed on it. “Oh…Uh…N-nothing…Eileen, this is Shinya,” Renard replied sheepishly, mentally cursing the heavens for his sudden reversion back into the stammering, quiet, insecure traits that plagued him everywhere he went. Eileen looked at the older boy, smirking before stating, “Aw, what a cute couple! Here are your menus. Take a seat wherever you want, I’ll come back to take your order in a minute,” Renard groaned, “Just ignore her…So, where do you want to sit?” The restaurant wasn’t as large as some of the more high end ones, but despite this, there were still a number of tables, a whole bunch of them lined up against the right wall while a couple of tables were located around the windows. A jukebox sat in the corner, and televisions were hung above each table, giving the place more of a sports bar feel to it…just without the bar. WC: 657

I'M BRUISED AND SCARRED save me from this broken heartALL MY LOVE WILL SLOWLY FADE & F A L L A P A R T Shinya looked at the boy when he answer and nodded. He would never be caught dead doing gymnastics. Besides he already knew most the things gymnastics taught you and he would practice the stuff over and over again. His Mentor taught him all that stuff and he didn’t learn it the girly way. But he couldn’t nor would he say anything about the kid taking gymnastics. He knew others couldn’t be taught different things by one person like he could. Though granted his mentor didn’t know everything nor would Shinya say to anyone that he did. Shinya knew very well that looks were deceiving but he also knew a lot of people still judged others for their looks. He kind of preferred others to judge him based on his looks. It would mean for him that everyone would leave him alone. Well expect for the people who would want to pick on him or pick a fight with him.
Shinya rolled his eyes; the kid knowing that statement was obvious. Shinya nodded “Your right in that sense. But why do it… If most people are going to think something you don’t want then why waste the time.” Shinya shook his head with his head down. “If you died tomorrow would you really want to be known as the snobby looking kid?” Shinya looked at the boy. Time was everything to Shinya after all the things he been through. He didn’t see why anyone would want to waste time on a look that wasn’t really them. “But fine, I won’t say anything more. If it’s the look you wish to have. But there are better ways to show you take pride in your education.” Shinya picked up his pace a bit but slowly so it wasn’t obvious that he was trying to get ahead of the boy.
Shinya had no reason to show he was saying no offense in his words. He really didn’t care what his statements sounded like. It was the way he put things if others didn’t like it again Shinya didn’t care. Whether the kid was taking offense to what he said or not he didn’t care either. Of course Shinya didn’t have any attention on offending the kid but it seemed he had offended the kid. ‘oh well… can’t please everyone nor do I want to..’
Shinya looked at Renard and nodded. He looked the place over; it looked nice. A small place but he nor his brother liked big crowed places. Shinya let Renard take the lead and followed him to the restaurant the rest of the way. As they got to the door the kid opened it and let Shinya go in first. Shinya walked in a looked around. The place didn’t look crowed which Shinya was glad about. He felt the stares of the people; he was quite used to it though sometimes he got annoyed. It’s like they never seen a goth before. Shinya looked at the woman who greeted them. He looked at the kid and raised his eyebrows at him. Shinya figured they knew each other seeing how this was his mother’s restaurant.
Shinya looked at the kid because of his stuttering. He didn’t think anything was wrong with it but he thought it was weird seeing how the kid seemed to know the girl. Shinya smirked wondering if the kid had a crush on the older looking girl. But then again the kid stuttered with him too so he couldn’t say it was a crush the boy had on the woman. Shinya was surprised; he opened his mouth then closed it because he was at a loss of words. “That was the first time I have ever been called ‘cute’ in anyway…” Shinya mumbled, mostly to himself. He knew she was probably just teasing the kid but ‘cute’ wasn’t the word he would say in anything concerning him. Shinya took the menus from the lady. It was weird for Shinya to be on the receiving side, he was used to being the one to take orders not give them.
Shinya looked at the kid and nodded. Shinya looked around the little restaurant. He saw a booth made for four people but he didn’t see why they could sit there next to a window. Shinya motioned his head to it “What about over there?” He stated simply.

“If I die tomorrow, I’m not going to care what people think about me or how I dress, because, by then, it won’t matter anymore,” Renard replied, nodding to Shinya as he walked over to the four person booth next to the window. He sat down in the seat facing away from the window, and awaited Shinya, watching him calmly as he waited. “Yeah, don’t mind Eileen. She likes to tease me a little bit. You get used to it after a while, but she and I never get to talk much,” Renard stated, setting his messenger bag next to him as he gently took it off of his shoulders. It wasn’t all that heavy, and even with the clothes and books, it didn’t look all that large, at least not to Renard. “She’s nothing like my sister, though. That girl is the devil incarnate,” Renard added, holding a hand out for one of the menu’s in Shinya’s hands, since he didn’t really want to snatch one away from him. It would be incredibly rude to do so, and, if anything, Renard and Eileen were the hosts here at the Golden Apple. Eileen probably wanted him to spread the word about this little known restaurant, while Renard only wanted to be hospitable. “You can have anything you want. The fish and veggies are on the second page, and the dessert is on the back. While we’re on the topic of food, why don’t you eat meat? I’d say you were a vegetarian, but you don’t mind eating fish, so I can rule that out immediately.” Renard stated, stopping a moment before asking Shinya about his eating habits. Sure, it was an odd thing to talk about, but they had time to spare. After all, their food was probably going to take a little while to cook, so conversing a little would certainly help their “relationship”. Though, as time went on, a few things marginally agitated Renard, and while the issues were very minor, they were very hard to ignore. The first, amongst other things, were the odd looks that the two were garnering from the other patrons, as if they expected the two were strange looking. The second problem, and a rather major issue at that, was the simple question of whether the movie theater was even showing a horror film. It was something so important, and yet it had just flown over Renard’s head up until now. What would they do if there wasn’t a horror movie playing?! Renard remained calm, instead waiting for Shinya to answer his questions before the teen would address the issue. WC: 442

I'M BRUISED AND SCARRED save me from this broken heartALL MY LOVE WILL SLOWLY FADE & F A L L A P A R T Shinya simply nodded he had said what he had to say. He had different views on that. But Shinya knew more than anyone about not caring what people think about you. “Well as long as it’s what you want” Shinya sighed, he knew when he died no one would know him enough to care or at all for that matter. Shinya wondered if there would be anyone on earth to remember him after he died. It made him wonder if he even wanted people to remember him. Shinya sat down across from Renard, he was not used to being at a restaurant with someone besides his brother and that was only on his breaks.
Shinya nodded “I figured she was teasing you.” It was the only thing that made sense in Shinya’s eyes; at least at this moment in his life. Also it would be one reason why Renard hadn’t said they weren’t a couple. But the kid had answered his question about the kid’s stuttering, though granted he could still have a crush on the girl. Shinya watched as the boy took off his bag and placed it next to him; Shinya kept his on. Shinya’s heart felt like it leaped into his throat at the boy’s statement. Shinya cleared his throat, trying not to make it obvious his statement had made him uncomfortable. “May I ask why you say that about your sister?” He could never say that about Shigemi unless he lied, but Shigemi could say that he was the devil incarnated or at least was, but he knew Shigemi would never say that about him. He didn’t want to sound rude or want to make it sound like he was prying into the kid’s life. But he couldn’t help but wonder why the kid would think that about his sister.
Shinya looked at Renard’s hand and blinked. Then he remembered he had the menus and handed one to the kid. Wanting to apologize about not giving it to him sooner but before he could the boy had started to talk again. Shinya realized the kid was a bit talkative but someone had to talk. Shinya flipped to the second page and looked through the menu. Shinya bit his lip the boy’s question was a good one. Shinya sighed “Well I started out being a vegetarian and even went to being a vegan. But after I shifted I got more of a craving for meat I couldn’t resist the urge to eat meat. So I started to eat fish, fish because I think they’re the lesser animal in the world and that there’s more fish than any other animal.” He wasn’t afraid to say anything about shifted seeing they were still on the island where only shifters can live on. He hoped he cleared the kid’s question. “May I ask you why you eat all meat?” Shinya wasn’t sure if he worded that question right or not but it was too late to change it.
Shinya had already gotten used to the stares; anyone would have to if they dressed like him. Shinya knew very well that a lot of people staring at them probably thought they were on a date and were gay. Though only a minor percent of that was true, Shinya was in fact bisexual though he couldn’t say anything about the kid but they were just two guys having lunch nothing more. He wished people would get that but it seemed too many people were becoming gay or in-between, but then again he also wished people would get used to it. It kind of made Shinya want to kiss another man in public just to annoy or gross out others. Shinya smirked; the idea seemed pretty funny to him. Shinya knew that the theater was showing at least one horror movie, there were many horror movies being made now so the theater had to be showing at least one. The thing was are they going to want to see the movie the theater had. If there actually wasn’t any horror movies’ showing then they could deal with that when they get to it.

“Yeah, don’t worry, I don’t mind sharing my thoughts on her. Ever since she shifted, she’s changed into some sadistic jackass who gets off to other peoples suffering. She’s smarmy, cynical, cold-hearted...she’s a mess,” Renard replied, no bit of hesitation present in his voice as he spoke about his sister. Even today, Renard couldn’t help but wonder what had caused his sister to change so drastically, but things would get fuzzy the closer he would get to finding an answer. Renard knew the reasoning behind his sister’s change, but it was as if he had repressed it, locking it away within his psyche. Huh, so Shinya tried to be a vegan…Renard hadn’t seen that coming. Renard couldn’t help but think whether or not Shinya would leave out the whole “fish are the lesser animal” thing if Renard shifted into a fish. Knowing how…blunt Shinya was, it was highly unlikely that he would edit his statement. Regardless, Renard glanced at the menu once Shinya had finished talking about his philosophy behind eating meat, and immediately picked up on Shinya’s next question, though the wording was somewhat puzzling. “Why? It’s because silver foxes are opportunist eaters. If they find prey close by, then they won’t care what it is, so long as they can eat it and prevent themselves from starving. In my case, I keep an open mind when it comes to food, whether it’s meat or not, it doesn’t matter much to me. I mean, I can sort of understand why you don’t like eating meat, and I think it’s cool that you’re willing to make such a devotion to your beliefs. It’s just that, well, I perform more proficiently when I’m in sync with the animal I shift into.” Renard replied, then realized how someone would be easily confused by his explanation. He cleared his throat, and set his menu down onto the table, resting both his arms onto it’s hard, cloth covered surface. Renard continued, “Silver foxes, while they are opportunist eaters, are still predators, and if I were to deviate from that, it would throw me out of sync, and I wouldn’t be able to function at one hundred percent. I know, it’s silly, and probably crazy, but that’s just how I work.” Renard remained silent as Eileen strolled up to them, a notepad and a pencil in her hands as she stood in front of the table that the two sat at. She had a polite smile on her face, and, with a very cheerful tone of voice, she asked, “Alright guys, are you all ready to order, or should I give you a couple more minutes?” WC: 446

I'M BRUISED AND SCARRED save me from this broken heartALL MY LOVE WILL SLOWLY FADE & F A L L A P A R T Shinya started to scratch his right palm which was covered by his glove that covering his one scar. He listened to the kid’s statements about his sister; looking at the table the whole time. He couldn’t help but think about himself as the kid talked. It reminded him of his own ways the past two years of his life in till a couple months ago. It also reminded him that his mother’s anniversary of her death was not too far off. Shinya stopped scratching his palm and looked at the kid. ‘Would he despise me also if he knew my past?’ Shinya took a deep breath and looked into the kid’s eyes. Everything Renard had described about his sister would describe him. Shinya simply nodded “I see.” He didn’t know what else to say about the subject. It was a touchy one for him even though it wasn’t about him at all. Shinya looked at the menu not wanting to keep eye contact with the kid anymore. Shinya wasn’t sure if he would ever be able to tell the kid about his past knowing what he thinks about his sister.
Shinya listened intently to the kid’s answer. It was a very good answer to Shinya, one that made sense and one that seemed like it was a thoughtful answer. Unlike just saying ‘because’ and something after that.. That made no sense at all like them not being able to live without meat… Because they could actually live without meat, you would just have to take more vitamins and other supplements. But it seemed their eating habits were because of their shifts. Which made sense, seeing how their shift was them in essence. Shinya nodded “I understand and I thank you for understanding why I don’t eat meat” Some people wouldn’t understand at all and just say crap about it and tell him that it was stupid for him not to eat any other meat. “If you want to know why I chose to become a vegetarian and Vegan, it’s because I think man takes too much of an advantage of animals. I know that it’s nature to eat animals, but we are omnivores we can eat anything not just meat… Not to mention I have seen videos of what they do to the animals before they well you know.. It’s not pretty and it makes me not want to eat meat because of that fact… Man does not respect animals and I think that’s wrong.”
Shinya looked around and rolled his eyes, there were still some people who were staring at them. “But I understand where you’re coming from, it’s really the same for me and my sleeping habits… I don’t think it’s silly or crazy.” Shinya’s sleeping habits were just like a polar bear; he knows because he did research about them after he shifted. He could also link a couple other ways of why he can shift into a polar bear. But he didn’t feel like going through it right now unless the kid asked. Though that’s the way he always was. Shinya was never the one to think something was silly that someone did, like the kid’s diet.
Shinya looked at the young woman who had greeted them when they came in walk up to their table. Shinya looked at Renard and then back to the young woman. Shinya shrugged “I’m ready” Shinya looked at the boy who sat across from him at the table. Shinya waited for Renard to say if he was ready or not before he ordered.
