The school day had ended roughly an hour ago, and yet, Renard was still here, running around in a large circle along the gym walls, trying desperately to improve his stamina and speed. There was no way he would do this with other people around though, so he had simply waited until everyone left the gym before starting his run. He breathed heavily, having run around the expansive gym about five times now, the front of his plain white T-shirt damp with sweat, the same sweat that dripped from his brow as he kept running. Renard continued to run until he felt his lungs burn, the two precious organs lusting for air as Renard breathed deeply, slowing down to a walk, his arms bent with his hands clutching the back of his head. He couldn't remember how long he had been running for, and at that moment, he didn't honestly care. The only thing Renard cared for at this moment was a cold drink to hydrate himself, and with a slowly jog, he reached his bookbag, laying in the right most corner of the gym. The bag was a green messenger's bag, with two large pockets on either side, the left most pocket containing a bottle of water pumped straight from the campus water-fountains. Renard leaned against the wall, then slowly slid down to sit against it, taking a mighty swig of his luke-warm beverage. He sighed in relief as his thirst was quenched for the time being, and in the silence of the empty gym, he couldn't help but ask himself why he couldn't simply exercise with the other students. Was it because he was afraid that they'd make fun of him? That seemed to be the only sensible explanation, and, in all honesty, it infuriated the young teen just thinking about it. "Why can't I just say "hi" to someone? It's not that hard..." Renard said to himself, fully aware that talking to himself would get him nowhere, but why should he keep to his thoughts to himself now? After all, he was practically the only person in the gym, to his knowledge. He sighed, stuffing his bottle of water into his bag before standing up, stressed out solely from his lack of communication skills. His hands curled into fists, and in a moment, he spread out his legs, brought his arms up around his face, and breathed deeply as he rapidly punched at the air, practicing his form and technique as he punched and occasionally kicked at an imaginary opponent. Oh how horrible it would be if anyone were to catch him doing such a thing! After all, if he couldn't stand running laps in public, what would happen if he was caught kickboxing?! Thoughts like these plagued Renard, and infuriated him further, as he now roared out with each punch and kick. However, much to the young man's dismay, his foot slipped as he delivered a round house kick, and Renard quickly came tumbling to the floor, landing on his back with a loud thud. Renard sighed in frustration, and continued to lay there, wondering what he could possibly do to improve himself. WC: 540

I'M BRUISED AND SCARRED save me from this broken heartALL MY LOVE WILL SLOWLY FADE & F A L L A P A R T Shinya walked through the halls. School had ended and he had nothing to do other than walk through the halls. He didn’t have a set place to go nor did he care where he ended up. He turned into another hall that he knew went to the gym. Shinya shrugged what would be the harm of shooting a few baskets? He had to make at least one friend here at this school. His brother was able to make two friends. Shinya sighed; he couldn’t be jealous of his brother. But yet that is what it felt like. He felt the stares of the other teens roaming the halls. He had been used to it by now. With the way his hair was and the clothes he was wearing. He was wearing a black shirt that said ‘bite me’ with a little vampire on it with one of his coats on but unbuttoned. His skinny jeans, sneakers, and gloves made up the rest of his outfit. He was wearing black and red contacts and had a slipknot messenger bag over his shoulder.
He found himself in front of the gym doors and quietly slipped inside; he was sneaky like that. It was from all the ninjitsu training he had. He saw that someone was already in the gym running laps around it. Not to disturb the young boy he took a seat quietly on the high bench on the far side. He slipped off his bag and but it at his feet as quietly as he could. He watched the young boy as he ran. He could tell he was trying to work on his stamina and speed. If he was just excising he would just be jogging. He wasn’t much of a runner or jogger though. Shinya watched the boy silently; he didn’t have any criticism, mostly because he didn’t have any experience with running or track if you want to call it that. Though all he knew was to push himself and that’s what this kid was doing. Shinya had to silently give this kid some props for pushing himself on his own. He usually had his mentor telling him to push himself to the limits and even though he no longer had his mentor beside him he still had the elder man’s voice in his head.
He watched as the young boy slowly stopped his running. Shinya could tell the young boy didn’t push himself to his limits; if he had he would have fallen to the flow panting harder than he was. Shinya bit his lower lip; it was a quirk he shared with his brother. He watched as the boy got a drink. He smirked at the boy’s statement. He couldn’t say he was shy he just didn’t care. Shinya raised his eyebrows in interest as the kid started kickboxing; again he didn’t know much about it but it wasn’t as different as ninjitsu. Though granted kickboxing is more about brute strength than anything and ninjitsu was more complex dealing with strength, intelligence and tactics. Though Shinya himself had come to rely on his strength more than the other two. Shinya watched as the kid did a round house kick. He watched the foot that was still on the ground and saw where the kid went wrong as he slipped and fell. The kid didn’t move the foot that was on the ground to keep his balance leveled; So he easily slipped and fell. He should have turned his foot 90 Degrees to stay balanced or more depending on the person and the power behind the kick.
Shinya sighed; he guessed this is where he had to come out of hiding. Shinya stood up without making a sound and slipped his jacket off and placed it on the bench where he was sitting. He walked down the benches to the ground. This time he wasn’t as quiet as he had been going on them. He actually didn’t make any effort to be quiet. “Well hello. I have to admit I have been watching you since you were doing laps. No I’m not a stalker but I didn’t want to disturb you and I found you too interesting to watch to say anything after your laps.” He figured he would start with the obvious and answer the kid’s unanswered question before hand to save time. Though his last statement he had to admit made him sound creepier than he had meant to. “You’re probably wondering what you did wrong. That or how can you improve. I only know because I have been there and still go there time to time. I can help, if you so wish.” Shinya didn’t mind helping the kid, he wondered if he would have any fun doing so either way he knew it would be interesting and gave him something to do. “Oh right, I’m Shinya Mori by the way.”

Renard couldn't help but blush as he heard the odd haired teen comment on how he wanted to help. In fact, Renard was so embarrassed that he completely ignored the teen’s statement,. The shy young teen immediately jumped to his feet, and made to leave, but nearly ended up running into the boy on his way towards his bag. Renard took a step back, and bit his lip, embarrassed that he had been caught practicing. At first, Renard wanted to leave, to forget he had ever met the boy. After all, maybe the young, red-eyed boy would forget about him, it wasn't like Renard was all that memorable. However, it quickly dawned on Renard that this could be some sort of sign from the heavens. Maybe, if he played his cards right, he could be friends with this kid, and, in turn, overcome his bashful nature. 'No, I'm not running away, not now! This is my big chance to overcome my stupid insecurity. Now, I just have to say, "Sure thing,"…just say it, just say it, just say it!' Renard thought, urging himself to speak, even if it was only a simple “yes”, it would be better than nothing at all. “T-t-that would…be great. M-My name is R-R-Renard Rodolph the Eleventh. It’s nice to…to meet you, Shinya,” Renard stammered out, the teen downright mortified by his delivery of those simple phrases. Then again, it was a lot better than saying nothing. “So…W-what did I d-do wrong?” Renard asked, confused as to how he could’ve possibly screwed up such a simple kick. He almost felt enraged by such a simple thing, but he wouldn’t dare let such a thing show. The last thing he wanted was to give Shinya the wrong impression. Renard really did want his help, even if he was a little oddly dressed for the occasion. “Was it the actual k-kick itself? Was it the footing?” He asked, smiling a little to himself, now that his sentences were becoming much more fluid. Speaking was becoming a much more natural action now and if anything, the teen wanted to cheer at how much progress he had made with Shinya in such a short span of time. Though, now that Renard got a good look at his “mentor”, he had to wonder why he didn’t run away. Shinya was incredibly intimidating, what with his crimson eyes and how he had crept up on Renard so easily just a few moments ago. Maybe it was because Renard was desperate for someone, anyone, to open up to…even if they were sort of scary looking. Sure, Renard knew he wouldn’t be able to tell this recent aquaintance anything too personal, but maybe he could with time. There was only one way to find out… WC: 462

I'M BRUISED AND SCARRED save me from this broken heartALL MY LOVE WILL SLOWLY FADE & F A L L A P A R T Shinya watched as the boy jumped to his feet and made his way toward him. Though by the looks of it, it didn’t seem the boy had meant to. Shinya sighed; he should have known that the kid would want to leave. He knew he was intimidating to some and he would like to keep it that way. But sometimes it gets old for kids to up and leave like this one kid was going to do. Shinya sighed once more knowing what he would have to say next but didn’t want to say it. “Er.. I’m sorry I snuck in here…” He trailed off not saying the next part he was about to say. Because it would have sounded completely wrong. He scratched the back of his head and looked up at the ceiling. This was going to be a pretty long day. He hoped this kid was an easy learner because he had a dance class to go to in two hours. No he didn’t do tap or anything like that nor did he do free style or do street dancing. He was more into classical dancing, like the tango, waltz, and the salsa. Working with a boy or girl closely than any of the other kinds of dancing was a plus to many other people; though he didn’t really care.
Shinya bit his lower lip he could tell he was embarrassed about something from the kids red cheeks. Shinya ruled out that the kid had a crush on him, for he knew that would never happen; or at least that’s what he thought. ‘Maybe it’s because he didn’t want anyone to see him practice’ Shinya looked around, that was probably why he was in the gym alone. Shinya didn’t like anyone to see him practice for the fear that they would see him mess up and laugh at him for it. So to counter act that fear he practice alone or only in front of his mentor. “Look I can tell you’re embarrassed and that’s probably because I have been watching you practice. Believe me I didn’t like to practice in front of other people either.” Hopefully Shinya was finding common ground with this kid so he wouldn’t be embarrassed practicing in front of him or nervous.
Shinya just simply nodded to the kid’s name. He knew that some other kid or kids would have teased him because of his last name. But Shinya really wasn’t like that; as a matter of fact who ever did tease this kid at all he would probably threaten then if that went nowhere beat up. “Like wise Renard the eleventh. “ ‘Eleventh generation to have the name Renard in his family… Wow long line of guys in his family. Must be awkward for his friends and his father’s friends; also confusing..’ Shinya snapped out of his thoughts and focused on Renard. Shinya didn’t see anything to his stuttering, he knew the kid was nervous so that probably had something to do with it or he was just like that. He wasn’t about to be rude and ask about it.
Shinya looked at the kid and tilted his head to the side. “It was your footing.” Shinya walked closer to Renard. “Your foot needs to pivot” As he said this he kicked Renard’s foot; the one that had stayed on the ground while he did the kick. “Of course, usually your foot moves with your body naturally when doing a kick like that. But if you don’t think about it than actually doing it you will screw up your stance and footing and naturally fall.” Shinya couldn’t help but realize he would have generally used a different more inappropriate word than screw. He was in fact being formal; he didn’t want to scare the kid anymore than he had. Shinya stood aside, if the kid wanted to try the kick with his advice he was glad to do so; though he didn’t want to get kicked.
Shinya was impressed with the kid staying. He could have left, Shinya wouldn’t have stopped him, yet the kid stayed. He couldn’t help but wonder if this kid would turn out to become a friend. The most unlikely friend Shinya could have. Though he could have said the same with Hina the girl he had befriended and had a crush and had told her his feelings. But after he had told her his feelings he never heard from her again. Shinya sighed; as easy as he could intimidate people he was kindhearted to the right people that is; though it took getting past his hard outer shell to see how kindhearted he actually was.

“T-thanks…and don’t worry about it,” Renard replied, sort of glad that Shinya had showed up when he did. Renard took a few steps away from Shinya, and slowly got into his stance, concentrating on his footing as he exhaled deeply. The gym was silent as Renard concentrated; the only sound within it came from Shinya and Renard’s breathing. In a flash, Ashton ran up, twirled around and pivoted his foot ninety degrees, kicking the open air as hard as he could before holding himself in place. He looked over to Shinya and smiled, “D-did I do good this time? I mean, I didn’t fall over, so that’s a plus…” It felt odd, how smoothly he was speaking now, as if these moments had suddenly changed him, transformed him somehow. The animal within him seemed ecstatic about this, as if it was cheering him on, willing Renard to become even more social, even more open. He lowered his leg and stood still, his breathing returning to normal as he finally relaxed himself. He failed to notice that he had kicked a little too low, as his kick would’ve only hit his opponent’s shoulder, and not their head. Regardless, Renard felt a feeling of relief wash over him, and he couldn’t help but bounce up and down a bit, keeping himself moving as he performed the same kick again and again, remembering to pivot his foot every single time he kicked. “You know, I wasn’t…Hmph! Embarrassed because you were watching. I was embarrassed…Hah! Because I’m not good at talking with people,” Renard stated between kicks, eventually coming to a stop as he eased out of his fighting stance and into a more relaxing pose. His right hand on his hip, with his left arm hanging limply, his right leg bent slightly so that shoulders slanted down to his right side. Renard paused, thinking of what he should say next. He didn’t want to take this too quickly, it would be incredibly creepy if he did, but he and Shinya surely could’ve been friends, right? He didn’t want to lose something like that, and yet whenever he tried to say anything else, his mind drew a blank. ‘Right, just blurt out something at random then! It’ll be better than nothing.’ Renard thought, swallowing the lump that was stuck in his throat as he exhaled deeply. Well, it was do or die. Renard just hoped that whatever he said wouldn’t be too awkward, or creepy. “Hey…uh, Shinya. Are you…uh, are you doing anything later?” Renard asked, trying to hide a bashful blush. It had been a long while since he asked someone if they’d want to hang out with him. Ever since his sister had her first shift, things had never been the same. His old friends were gone, hundreds of miles away, and who knew if they still remembered him or not. “Cause if not…well, I was wondering if…maybe we could…hang out or something?” Renard asked, hoping that he wasn’t taking things too quickly. After all, the two had just met a few minutes ago, and so far, the only thing they had in common was martial arts technique. Other than that, the two didn’t know a thing about each other, and their clothing styles certainly clashed, to say the very least. And yet, it was a chance that Renard was willing to take. Who knows, maybe they’d be best buds? “And…uh, for future reference, please just…call me Renard. I only use the eleventh bit when I’m around my folks.” Renard said, hoping that there wasn’t any awkward air between the two. WC: 604

I'M BRUISED AND SCARRED save me from this broken heartALL MY LOVE WILL SLOWLY FADE & F A L L A P A R T Shinya nodded to Renard’s statement. Shinya watched the kid’s body as he did the kick. He saw that the boy did pivot his foot. He was impressed with how quick the kid learned. Though Shinya noticed that he seemed to have kicked too low, though that wasn’t a big deal he would still be doing damage to his opponent’s shoulder. Though granted it wouldn’t have much of an impacted, kickboxers are known to be built; so he wouldn’t be doing much damage to his shoulder. Shinya bit his lip; he also noticed that Renard seemed to be too tense, the kid needed to relax more or he might pull a muscle. Though Shinya knew in time as the kid practiced and got used to the move he will in turn become more relaxed. Shinya nodded the kid did well and he was right he didn’t fall over. “Yes you did well. Though you kicked too low, well depending on how tall your opponent is you would have kicked his shoulder. Meaning your kick wouldn’t have had the impact it should have.“ Shinya left out the relaxed bit; he wanted to see how the kid did practicing the move and if he would get more relaxed with it.
Shinya kept watching as the kid did his kicks. The kid really should be practicing this kick with a punching bag; so Renard could see how hard he was doing the kick. Shinya wondered how committed the kid was to kickboxing, was it just a side line thing he did in his spare time? Did the kid want to become the greatest kick boxer? Or was kickboxing as important to the kid as ninjitsu was to him? This was a question Shinya should know for it would tell Shinya how much he should push the kid. His own mentor had asked him the same thing he could hear his voice saying ‘How much do you want this?’ His mentor would always ask him this. Shinya knew it was a question that would make him push himself because of the answer. But if Shinya didn’t want it as much as he did. He knew he would have just been wasting his mentor’s time for his mentor told him that from when he had started training. Ninjitsu was all around harder than kickboxing and probably even harder than martial arts.
Shinya snapped out of his thoughts when the kid started talking. Shinya looked at him and blinked. He listened and watched the kid. He could tell the boy was becoming more relaxed with the kick so he didn’t have to worry about him pulling something. Shinya nodded; he could accept that but that didn’t explain why he was in the gym alone practicing than with the other kids. But Shinya shrugged it away it really wasn’t any of his business. Though he was disappointed in himself for getting that wrong. Shinya started to move closer to the kid as he did his girly pose. He couldn’t say anything about the pose other than he thought it was a cute one though you wouldn’t catch him dead doing it. Shinya was now face to face with the kid; he tilted his head to the side. Anyone other than him would have thought he was going to kiss the other boy, but he was merely just trying to figure out the kid’s comfort zone. “You seem fine talking” Though Shinya had to admit the kid had a rocky start with talking.
Shinya smirked and backed away from the kid. He head to the benches for his bag so he could check the time on his phone. About a half hour had passed since he had came into the gym, it was more time than he had thought. He walked off the benches and back toward the kid. Now that Shinya was looking at him more intently than watching his movements the kid didn’t seem like his major would be kickboxing or anything near it. Now he was just getting curious; he knew there was only one way to find out the answer. “May I ask you what your major is? You don’t seem the type of person to have a major in anything that had to do with fighting.” Though he could be wrong, but he figured anyone with a major that had to deal with fight unless it’s wrestling would be more built.
Shinya looked at the kid as he asked the question. Shinya thought the kid was about to ask him on a date at first. Shinya couldn’t help but wonder how that would go; the asking part not the date. It had been a long time since he asked anyone on a date and no one has ever asked him on a date. Though he couldn’t blame anyone for not asking him; though if you asked him if he cared he would say no. Before Shinya could answer the kid’s question he went on. Shinya raised his eyebrows, now he was really impressed with the kid. Like the dating thing no one has asked him to hang out either not since he was in middle school. Shinya was quite shocked that the kid had asked him to hang out with him. “Uh well.. I have a dance class in about two hours but after that I’m free. “Shinya sighed, noting that he really had no life outside school, work and his brother. Again the kid was an unlikely friend but people do come together because of their difference. Shinya nodded to the kid’s statement about his name.

Renard stepped back as Shinya drew closer to him, the red eyed teen getting a little to comfort. Renard wasn’t against kissing other men, in fact he supported it himself, but the two had just met, and Shinya was getting a little too close. When Shinya told him that Renard wasn’t bad at talking, he couldn’t help but chuckle. “Well, I’m trying to g-get better at it.,” Renard replied, impressed by how much progress he had made so far. But would this confidence stick with him when he talked to others? Of course it would, it’s not like Renard would go back to being as antisocial as he was before. Surely this would be a lasting change… “I’m majoring in Law Enforcement. It’s kind of required for me to be a good fighter,” Renard replied, sticking both his hands in his pockets as he walked over to his messenger bag, and retrieved his bottle of tap water. He wiped the sweat off his brow with his right hand, then immediately took a sip of water afterwards. “All of the men in my family go into law enforcement, it’s like a tradition. B-but that’s not why I’m doing it. I just want to help people, solve mysteries, catch the bad guys, you know?” Renard asked, twisting the cap back onto the bottle of water as he spoke, putting it back into it’s pocket before slinging the bag over his shoulder. “To be honest, you don’t seem like the kind of guy who’d be going to dance classes, but it’s still cool,” Renard said, trying his best not to sound mean. After all, the last thing he wanted to do was insult a potential friend. But seriously…dance? Guy looked like he’d mug someone before he’d bust a move. Then again, Renard didn’t seem like the kind of kid who would jump from roof to roof, so who was he to judge? “I mean, heck, I ran circles around a gym for about an hour. Not to mention all the stupid stunts I try to pull off…” Renard said, muttering the last part as he recalled his attempt to jump up onto a railing and walk down it. He had lost his balance as he reached the end of the rail and landed hard on his arm, scraping it a little bit, but not doing any serious damage to himself. “So, uh, where Is you dance class anyways? If it isn’t too far, then maybe we could walk together?” Renard asked, “just…give me a minute to change out of my gym clothes, okay?” Renard held up his index finger to Shinya, then hurried off and into the locker room, setting his bag down on one of the wooden benches as he quickly threw off his shirt and shorts, the two pieces of clothing landing on the bench next to his bag. Renard then opened his bag and pulled out a long sleeve, white dress shirt and quickly put it on, fiddling with the buttons for a moment before folding his collar down. Didn’t want to look like a total snob and have his collar all popped out… He then grabbed the black pair of slacks from the bag and quickly pulled them up, zipping up the zipper and buttoning them shut around his waist. Finally, he grabbed his black vest and quickly threw it on before stuffing his gym clothes into his messenger bag. Renard then hurried out the door, hoping that Shinya hadn’t left without him. I'M BRUISED AND SCARRED save me from this broken heartALL MY LOVE WILL SLOWLY FADE & F A L L A P A R T Shinya was hoping for more of a reaction than the kid just stepping back. Though he was glad the kid didn’t out right kiss him. He wasn’t interested in the boy that way; though he is rarely interested in others in that way. He shrugged; he found out what he wanted to know and that was the limit of his comfort zone. Though in that situation didn’t really give away much of the limit to his comfort zone. He liked making situations awkward for the other person; though in this case it didn’t seem like he made the kid feel awkward. Shinya himself was rarely fazed by anything; but of course there were some things that did faze him.
Shinya blinked and nodded. He agreed the kid still needed to work on his talking skills. Why the kid chooses to practice on him he didn’t understand. He knew that a lot of people saw him as unapproachable but then again it was him who started talking to the kid. So in the end Shinya kind of asked for it. But just because he talked to the kid first didn’t mean he was going to talk to others first too. This was probably the only time he would and it was only because he was in a nice mood that he talked to this kid. But at least his brother would be happy, happy as in jumping happy when concerning Shigemi.
Shinya was surprised at the answer to his question. “Interesting; It does explain some things… So you are committed to being a better fighter. “ Shinya nodded “Though remember fighting isn’t all about brute strength.” He knew some cops relied on brute strength while others relied on the gun they cared, while even others were overly cocky and thought because they were a cop people couldn’t disregard them. Shinya looked at the basketball hoop, he had remembered he came in here to play but he ended up not playing. Though that wasn’t a big deal to Shinya. Shinya looked at the kid “Just like naming the males Renard?” he was just teasing the young boy and didn’t mean any harm by it. Anyone wanting to be his friend or more than a friend either had to be used to him being sarcastic or sarcasticness in general or they had to get use to it for him being sarcastic was who he was and it wasn’t going to change.
Shinya nodded to his last statement, he understood the need to help part. His brother was like that, he wanted to help but more with helping carry bags to someone’s car, or helping someone cross the street just in a general span. Though he was impressed by the choice of law enforcement the kid made to help people. Shinya knew it would be a rush to find the ‘bad guys’. But he was more a writer than anything. “I’ll be the one writing stories of cops and such searching for a serial killer but winding up dead in the end. “ If anyone was smart enough they would tell he just told them his major in a sentence like that. Shinya smirked at the kid’s statement about him not being the kind to take dance classes. He alone should know that looks don’t count for much. Shinya nodded “I don’t but looks aren’t everything. But don’t go thinking I’m going to be doing any dance classes like hip hop or tap because that is not me.”
Shinya didn’t get his last sentence; he shrugged the kid was probably talking to himself. Shinya raised his eyebrows it seems he had a lot to figure out about this kid, like why kid chose him. “It’s not too far a walk from here. The dance studios and gym aren’t too far apart. If you want to then sure you can walk with me. But you aren’t holding my hand.” The last part was of course Shinya’s try at humor; though he said it casually enough for the kid to think he wasn’t playing his card at humor. Shinya nodded, he would wait. He wasn’t the kind of guy to just leave like that. He watched the kid as he went into the changing room. Shinya walked back up the benches where he left his bag and coat. He slipped his coat on and buttoned it and then threw his bag over his head. He walked down the benches and sat on the last one waiting for Renard to come out.
When Renard came out of the changing room he couldn’t believe the clothing style the kid had. Shinya sighed he had no right to tell the kid how to dress and he couldn’t say anything about it because it would make him a hypocrite. But Shinya shook his head in disproval. If other kids picked on the young boy he could see why they did. But at least the kid wasn’t wearing a tie. Shinya stood up and walked over to the boy close enough to tug on the kid’s collar. “You know you look kind of snobbish in an outfit like this…” he was stating an opinion not meaning to offend the kid but not caring all the same. “I was merely stating an opinion; though of course I did not mean to offend you. ” If the kid didn’t like his opinion then Shinya really didn’t care. Shinya turned toward the gym doors and started walking to them with the kid.

“Well, you don’t seem me commenting on your clothes, but let’s just forget about it and go, shall we?” Renard replied, ignoring Shinya’s “holding hands” comment. After all, he wasn’t homophobic in the slightest, and holding another boy’s hand didn’t bother him at all. Still, it was rather odd to hear such a thing…maybe he was just joking around? ‘Yeah, he’s just kidding, why else would he say something like that. It’s not like he knows or anything…’ Renard thought, opening the gym doors and being assaulted by the warm, Hawaiian sunlight. Renard hated the heat more than anything, as his animal was much more accustomed to the cold and the snow. And, much to Renard’s dismay, it never snows in Hawaii…maybe he’d have to do something about that over the winter. Get a few bags of ground up ice, a couple of fans, get them up onto the roof…somehow; Boom! Snow in Hawaii! ‘Well, it’s certainly something to think about,’ Renard mused, knowing that such an act would probably get him into a heap of trouble…but lord would it have been worth it. The idea put Renard into a chipper mood, and as the two started to walk down the stairs in front of the gym, Renard hopped up onto the railing and ran down it, jumping off at the end and landing on his feet. At first glance, the entire run down the railing would’ve looked insanely difficult to any passerby, but to Renard, it was like walking down the stairs. Of course, it took him about half a years worth of practice, and painful spills, to get it down perfect, and even then, he couldn’t really walk down a rail if it was wet. Of course, he would always try and slide down it anyways, and it was surprising how successful this would be…most of the time. After all, no one is perfect. “So Shinya, what kind of dancing do you do?” Renard asked, following behind Shinya, hoping to make some kind of small talk between the two, maybe get to know each other a little better. After all, Shinya probably had quite an interesting story to tell, as he was a shifter just like Renard was. Then it hit him, they hadn’t even bothered to tell each other what animal they could shift into! How did they forget?! After all, it was a perfectly natural part of their escence…okay, maybe not perfectly natural, but it was still a pretty big part of themselves that shouldn’t be ignored. “And, if you don’t mind me asking, what can you shift into? I can turn into a silver fox,” Renard stated, wondering if Shinya would be willing enough to reveal what he could shift into. WC: 461

I'M BRUISED AND SCARRED save me from this broken heartALL MY LOVE WILL SLOWLY FADE & F A L L A P A R T Shinya smirked; the kid has been interesting so far, would the kid be able to keep his interest? “Yes but I never said you couldn’t comment on it. ” At least he didn’t look like he was rich and a brat. Maybe the kid was a brat and rich then he attire fit him perfectly. But it was not his place to judge, so far the kid didn’t seem like a brat. Though Shinya could tell he had upset the kid, the kid was lucky he was in a nice mood. “Look I see I upset you and I’m sorry. I’ll try to keep my comments to myself.” Shinya’s voice was leveled and casual. The kid wasn’t helping with trying to figure out his sexuality, for him it was a game he was playing. It was more than making him feel uncomfortable and more than humor. It really was a game Shinya was playing, to find out his sexuality. He found the kids reactions quite dull though and he was losing interest. Though by the kid’s reactions all he could tell was he wasn’t homophobic. The kid ignored his statement, he wondered why that was. He figured the kid would have said yeah right or something along those lines but Renard gave him nothing. Though what the kid’s sexuality was in the end Shinya really didn’t care, the game was just for his amusement.
There was always something more to Shinya’s thinking even if he didn’t know it himself. This was something others didn’t understand. He walked out the gym doors and into the fresh air. He breathed deeply he loved the smell of the outdoors. Some find the heat uncomfortable and at times so did he but usually he didn’t mind it and whenever it got too hot for him he would just go to the beach or the indoor pool to cool down. Shinya started to walk down the stairs. He looked at the other boy just as he started walking on the railing ’show off..’ Shinya sighed and kept walking down the stairs. Shinya wasn’t much of a show off. He rather he kept the things he can do and about himself hidden from the world, keeping himself as mysterious as the afterlife; if there even was one.
When Shinya found himself at the end of the stairs he looked at the kid “Impressive” was the only thing that escaped his lips. Though the kid was in Shinya’s eyes showing off the trick was indeed impressive. Shinya wondered how long it took him to perfect that trick and how many more tricks he had up his sleeve. Shinya started to walk again heading for the dance studio. “So how long did it take you to perfect that trick?” he was curious and it aided with small talk. Though Shinya wasn’t much of a talkative person and was quite surprised with himself of how much he had talked to this boy.
Shinya opened his mouth to answer the kids question then closed it. He thought about grabbing the boy’s hand and pulling him toward him so they were face to face to see if he could get a reaction from the kid that would be useful to his ‘game’ but decided against it. ’Another time and place’ Shinya sighed. “To answer your question I do partner dances, like the waltz, tango, salsa, ballroom and well you get the idea.” It really was just a way for him to pass the time away, and depending he couldn’t really say he didn’t enjoy the class. “Do you have any Extra Curricular classes?”
Shinya stopped and looked at the sky as the kid asked yet another question. Shinya sighed; he didn’t really care about peoples shifts, it really didn’t matter to him. Shinya nodded to his shift, Shinya had a thought of being face to face with the kid but last time he had backed away. Shinya instead just looked at him “Cute shift. I turn into a polar bear.” He stated simply he didn’t care less if people knew his shift or not again it wasn’t a big deal to him. He knew very well that saying his shift made him more intimidating. But when he’s shifted he’s actually pretty cuddly and playful; though he would never admit that. If he shifted in front of someone he wouldn’t act all cuddly and playful he would act the opposite in fact; unless the person was someone that was close to him.

“…Don’t worry about it,” Renard replied after a long pause. Shinya didn’t need to apologize for his comments. After all, Renard’s response to Shinya’s comments had been more lighthearted than resentful…maybe he had portrayed such an emotion improperly? “And I’m not upset about your choice of words, I’m upset about this frickin’ heat. It reminds me that it’s never gonna snow here…” Renard said, referencing his love of the snow to Shinya, but not telling him about it outright. After all, telling someone “I like snow,” would be an easy way to make the conversation very awkward. “Thanks…though I probably shouldn’t have showed off like that. I just wanted to practice it out real quick,” Renard replied, silently glad that he hadn’t ruined his school “uniform” with that little stunt of his. After all, this suit was an utter jerk to clean, and he certainly wouldn’t be able to afford another suit. Renard paused, trying to remember how long it had taken him to learn that little trick he did. He had just started this whole “parkour” hobby when he was around fourteen, and this stunt was one of his earliest… “I would say it took me roughly six months to get it down right. I’m not entirely perfect at it though…I’m actually glad that I didn’t fall on my face when I walked down that rail just now, heh,” Renard chuckled light hearted, scratching the back of his head as he listed to Shinya explain what type of dances he did. Renard closed his eyes briefly and tried to imagine Shinya dancing with someone else on the dance-floor, the two twirling around, spinning each other, one dancer throwing the other in the air… “Sounds fun. A lot more fun than my Extra Curricular activites. I just have Track, and that’s all. I guess its cause I usually don’t have the time too, since I’m so busy working on my kickboxing, Parkour, and schoolwork.” Renard answered, though he wasn’t being all that truthful. Honestly, he still had plenty of free time, despite all the various practices that he had to do throughout the day, but he was afraid that people would think he was a fruit if they found out he took dance classes. Still, it was something he would’t mind trying, but it wasn’t something he’d want to do in public, that’s for sure. Renard couldn’t help but feel a little jealous when he heard that Shinya could shift into a bear. Why couldn’t Renard turn into something big and terrifying?! Didn’t it fit his personality or something? And if it didn’t, why did it fit Shinya’s? Then again, Shinya certainly was intimidating in his own right, and did look a little cute… “Seriously?! That’s awesome!” Renard replied, still rather livid about being aquainted to a polar bear shifter. Most of Renard’s friends back at his old home were all human, so they couldn’t shift at all, but Shinya, he could turn into something massive at the drop of a hat! Meanwhile, all Renard could turn into was a lithe, fluffy little fox, not that it bothered him all that much. Still, interrogating a suspect would’ve been much simpler if Renard could’ve shifted into something threatening… WC: 542

I'M BRUISED AND SCARRED save me from this broken heartALL MY LOVE WILL SLOWLY FADE & F A L L A P A R T Shinya just shrugged to the kid telling him not to worry about it. Shinya wasn’t even sure why he had apologized; it wasn’t like him at all. Shinya sighed what was wrong with him… Was he really going soft? He hoped not. Shinya looked at the kid; he didn’t like the heat made sense. You would think him being a polar bear shift would make him hate the heat but he really didn’t mind it. “It is summer and summer is the hottest time of the year. So being in one of the hottest states is no fun if you don’t like the heat. As for the snow, take a vacation to Alaska or Greenland.” This reminded him that he and Shigemi were going to Alaska when school ended, for Shi it would be a vacation but for him it wouldn’t really be. His mentor was going to Alaska on business and wanted him to go see Shinya could train in snow. The things he had to put up with in his training. He had no reason to say no and he has never been to Alaska before se it would be a good experience. Shinya might also be able to write a short horror story while he was there. That is if his mentor gave him a break.
Shinya shrugged though he had made a comment silently to himself he really didn’t care. He understood that when people saw a chance they took it. Though he himself wasn’t like that. He mostly just let chances pass by him rather than take them. He really didn’t think about it, so he rarely regretted his choices. “It’s fine.” He knew a lot of kids did tricks like that; they called it something he just couldn’t remember what it was. He had seen some youtube videos about it. He could never remember what it was called. Though he would always say he would stick to ninjitsu. Though he wasn’t saying to couldn’t do it. He might possibly can from what he seen of it and what his mentor taught him it didn’t look very different from one another. Shinya nodded at how long it took the kid to get the trick down. This made Shinya wonder just how much he had practice the trick. “It’s not about falling that counts, it’s the learning. If you fall than you need to think about what you did wrong and how you can do it right. It’s really the only way to get it perfect.” Another thing his mentor told him very often. Before Shinya was ever to do something again if he failed the one time he would have to think of what he did wrong and how he can make it right.
Shinya’s thoughts on the matter of training were that you will never learn if you have others think of the problem for you. One reason he didn’t like martial arts or most martial arts because the ‘teacher’ told you what you did wrong and how to do it right. Even if you couldn’t figured out how to get something right you should always know what you did wrong. It was just all around easier that way.
Shinya smirked at the kid’s reply. “Is that the only thing you’re interested in Extra Curricular activities wise? Though it seems we both do track… ” Shinya had way more than just one. Shinya could understand him being busy with other things. Shinya seemed to have way more on his plate then Renard but that was on him. He has schoolwork, his writing, his job and all the extra curricular activities he had, which he thought was too much for him right now. He felt himself getting more and more stressed by the day and will be happy when school ended so he could have a break from everything but training in ninjitsu and his writing. The word parkour sounded familiar like he had heard it before but just couldn’t place it. “Parkour? I have heard it before… Just can’t remember how..”
Shinya nodded though he didn’t see the big deal in it. The kid thought it was awesome while his brother thought he was just cuddly, soft and warm. He couldn’t help that his heart had seem to warm as the kid thought it was awesome. Would the kid think it was still awesome if he sees him in his shifted form? Or would he just see terror in the kid’s eyes like he did when he shifted any other time. Though granted when he shifted in front of someone he was pissed because he would be in the middle of a fight with someone who couldn’t defend themselves without shifting. “If you think so” Shinya just shrugged.
Shinya walked to the dance studio building and walked to the door. A deep growl rose in his throat as he looked at the door and saw the sign that was on it. The sign read ‘The dance instructor is out sick. I’m sorry to inform you that the dance classes are canceled till further notice’ Shinya sighed, the time it took him to walk here was wasted. He took his phone out of his bag and looked to see if he missed anyone calling or any texted messages that could have saved him the time he walked here. But there was nothing. Shinya looked at the kid and shrugged “Sorry…” He was apologizing for having the kid walk with him to the building to just in the end waste both their times.

“Oh yeah, you and I run track together…I think I’ve seen you in my Biology class too! It’s a shame we haven’t met each other sooner, huh?” Renard said, particularly enjoying the conversations they were having. After all, he hadn’t talked to someone like this since he was a little kid, so it was refreshing and, in a way, rejuvenating all at once. “You probably heard of parkour from those show-offs on youtube. It’s essentially climbing up whatever you can, like buildings, or making precise jumps and movements, like how I ran down that railing a minute ago. To me, it’s more thrilling than a roller coaster ride, and it’s one of my favorite things to do…” Renard explained, stopping as the duo got to the dance studio and watching as Shinya read the sign on the door. It was obvious that the studio had been temporarily closed down for the moment, as Shinya came back and apologized to Renard, probably for walking all the way here for nothing. “Sorry for what? This just means we have more time to hang out. Besides, I needed the exercise,” Renard replied, smiling a little as he tried to think of an activity the two of them would enjoy. It took the clever fox a second, but eventually, he came up with an idea that would either really piss off Shinya, or would be a really fun thing for them to do. Hopefully, it would be the latter, and not the former… “So, we’ve got a couple of hours to kill. How about we go see a Horror film? I mean, there’s tons of things we can do other than that, but I just figured that you’d enjoy a good scary movie,” Renard suggested, silently praying that his assumption wasn’t too far off. Then again, he was basing quite a bit on just the kind of clothing that the guy wore, that and how intimidating he looked. Maybe he couldn’t stand the horror genre and liked comedies instead? No matter, it was already past the point of no return, and it was up to Shinya to see if Renard’s little activity would sink or swim. “C’mon, it’s not like it’s that far. Hell, we could jog there if you want, maybe talk a little more or get something to eat on the way there?” Renard said, practically begging at this point, but still keeping a light-hearted, happy disposition to the whole idea. After all, nothing made a person more desperate than having them get on their knees and pleading. WC: 431

I'M BRUISED AND SCARRED save me from this broken heartALL MY LOVE WILL SLOWLY FADE & F A L L A P A R T Shinya looked at the boy surprised by his words. He hadn’t heard anyone say it was a shame they haven’t met sooner since he was in elementary school. Shinya nodded “It is a shame” he whole heartily agreed that it was a shame. He actually enjoyed the kid’s presence; the boy was also interesting to Shinya. He thought it was strange that it was this unlikely person to catch his interest. He also thought it was weird they were in the same biology class and as well with track. Guess it really was a small world after all. “Why are you taking biology?” He couldn’t say that not many people were into the subject or there would be less hospitals and doctors/nurses. He had his guesses on why the kid was taking it but asking gave them something to talk about.
Shinya remembered what it was now. “Oh that’s right. I can never remember the name… Are you on youtube? “He wondered how good the kind was if parkour was his favorite thing to do. “I see. Hmm” He guessed parkour to the kid was equivalent to ninjitsu for him. Shinya understood the thrill the kid was talking about, for ninjitsu was also more thrilling to him than a roller coaster. “I understand the whole thrilling thing, just for me it’s not parkour. Though I do find that parkour itself seems hard to do. So I’m impressed. It’s just not my thing.” Shinya bit his lip “Though if you don’t mind I would like to see you in action more than just running down a railing.” Shinya wondered if would be any good at it. His mentor had taught him how to fight on building including house and fight on buildings and houses in the rain. Where he was going to use that skill he had no clue. But he still climbed buildings to gaze at the stars at night or the sunset.
Shinya opened his mouth to state the obvious than closed as Renard went on. The kid did have a point that was for sure. But what they would do was the question that concerned him. Shinya smirked “You don’t look like you needed the exercise.” Shinya was not the one to come up with things especially when it was with someone else. Shinya bit his lower lip, he was fine when he was alone he would think of something to do. But concerning someone else his mind just went blank. It seems the kid wasn’t the only one who needed to work on people skills. Though that’s a skill Shinya would rarely use.
Shinya looked at the kid and raised his eyebrows. “You like horror films?” Shinya looked at Renard he was judging that by the way he looked he knew it. Though he couldn’t blame the kid. Shinya nodded “A horror film sounds fine. I like them” They were in fact his favorite genre in both films and books. He was glad the kid didn’t say romance he always that they were boring as hell. Shinya looked at the kid “I can do with the talking and the eating if the place has any fish if not then I’ll be fine but I’ll save the jogging for the track.” Shinya thought the boy was being a little to desperate he had a mind to tell the kid not to be but he kept his mouth shut. Shinya moved closer to the boy “So is this a date then?” Again Shinya was only asking to find out his sexuality. After a few seconds Shinya turned his back on the kid and started to head for the movie theater. Whether the boy saw it as Shinya hitting on him he really didn’t care for it wasn’t the case.

Renard couldn’t help remain smiling when he heard Shinya agree with him. After all, it was nice to see that their relationship together was starting out on a very positive note. As the subject of why Renard took Biology was brought up, he didn’t need to even think before giving Shinya his reasoning behind taking such a class, especially at his grade level. “Well, detectives need to know a ton about science, especially anatomy and biology, because if they don’t know something like that, then they have to wait for the forensic reports, which take time, time that the suspect could use to get out of town. It’s silly, I know, but I’m sure that it will come in handy later on in the future,” The teen replied, taking a silver ring from his pocket and slipping it onto his right ring finger. He was surprised that he hadn’t put it on earlier, as it was very precious to him, as it was to his father, and his father before him. He barely heard Shinya’s next question, and replied, “Huh? Oh, no. I don’t have anyone to record my runs…and even then, I don’t want to look like a show-off. And if you want to see me in action…well, we’d have to wait till after the movie. That and I’d have to change my clothes. I can’t really afford to get this dirty…” Renard realized how snobby that last part sounded, and immediately stated, “Uh, well, I literally can’t afford to get this dirty…and it’s my policy to do everything to the best of my ability…so I try to be a formal as possible when I go to school. That’s why I’m wearing this. And while I might not need the exercise, it’ll still help me improve myself…if only by a marginal amount,” Renard was incredibly happy that Shinya had accepted his offer, especially after he told Renard that he also wanted to get something to eat. It wasn’t like Renard hated movie theater food; it was just that it cost way too much money to buy something at the movie theater. Then again, with a theater as good as the one they were going to, it made sense why they would charge so much. Renard couldn’t help but blush when Shinya asked if they were going on a date, and coughed a little to try and clear his throat, “N-no…of course not! W-why would you think about something like that?” Renard couldn’t tell if Shinya was just joking around with him or not, and that was sort of the reason why Renard seemed so flustered as when he spoke.
