Skii had writers block. She was going to kill some one. Well, thats what she felt like anyways. She needed to write something but nothing was coming to her. She had cleaned her dorm in frustration but still nothing was coming to her.
In a rush Skii had slipped on whatever she could find. She almost didn't put on her cardigan but the wind caught her when she stepped outside.
Of course Skii had brought her bag with all of her writing things. Her notebook... Well her numerous notebooks. And her pens and pencils. Though all of her ideas had left her head.
Skii grumbled her way around the compass. She went from the library to the music hall. Nothing seemed to give her any ideas and if she had any they STUNK!
"Oh, place where Elphaba goes to college! Shiz, shiz, SHIZ!" Skii was going crazy. She went to the last place she knew would bring her peace. the forest. she needed a place to climb. Her animal instinct going crazy with in her.
"If I'm going to get any idea's it'll be here." Skii kicked off her shoes at the foot of a tree and slung her bag over her shoulders. She knew her outfit wasn't fit for climbing trees but she had to get over this writers block.
So, Skii climbed the tree. she made her way up until she found a branch comfortable enough to sit and write on. Except, she snagged her tights on the bark of the tree.
"Oh Geez! Can this day get any better!" Skii looked at her ruined tights with disgust. Maybe she should just take them off.
Skii hung her bag on a branch next to her, hoping it wouldn't fall. that would just make this even better, her having to climb back down the tree.
"Stay!" She commanded the inanimate object. Skii then turned back to her tights wondering what she should do about them.
"No one will care if I take them off..." Skii, started pulling off her tights hoping no one else was having writers block today and needed to climb a tree. She slipped off her tights and let them slip towards the ground hoping they landed near her shoes and not on anything or anyone....
She then went to reach for her bag... instead she caught her knee on a rouge tree branch.
"That's it!" Skii basically screamed. "This day officially sucks!"

x... ...x... ...x The island was very similar in climate and foliage to her home in Madagascar, which was one reason that she had always felt so comfortable being there. The temperature was nice, the air smelled of the sea, and the trees were comparable in stature to the ones that she grew up climbing. Charly loved her life on the shifter island.
In fact, the only thing that she could ever find to complain about was that her schedule was completely bonkers. Normally, she would sleep through the hot days and wake up around dusk, doing most of her activity at night. The University, however, seemed to cater mostly to those of diurnal preferences, and the young woman lost precious hours of sleeptime. She often snuck naps in throughout her days.
Today was no exception. Once finished with her classes for the day, Charly Powers wandered onto the highschool campus--the forest tended to grow more lush around there, and it was on the way to her apartment complex. It was rare for her to run into any other students--that, or they saw her coming and quickly went in the opposite direction. She seemed to creep people out, what with her quiet ways and awkward mannerisms.
Eventually, she came to her favorite tree--a large hardwood which reached well into the canopy. She placed her plain cloth bag of books and other standard school materials in a nook formed by two large roots, and reached her long, skeletal limbs upwards along the trunk. Lithely, she seemed to glide up the wood towards the top, wrapping her long fingers around branches and hooking legs over limbs. It was all very natural to her.
She stopped nearly halfway up, where two hefty branches split off from the main trunk and made a comfortable cradle, the perfect size for her to sprawl out along and dangle her legs out of. Her flannel pajama pants blew gently in the breeze, their green and brown coloring serving as good camouflage from below. She had just closed her eyes for a well-deserved rest, when...
"That's it! This day officially sucks!" echoed through the limbs and right into her sensitive ear canals.
Groggily, but not in a foul mood at being disturbed, Charly peered down the side of the tree to see a young girl fidgeting and looking highly dishelved. On a normal occasion, she would have kept quiet and simply stared unblinking at the girl.
However, she seemed particularly distraught. After a moment of her usual keeping quiet and unblinkingly staring, she offered a demure greeting, not acknowledging any negative situations that may have been occurring.
"Hello."

"Hello"
Skii almost screamed as a voice rose from beneath her she had to catch herself from falling.
"OH my... I'm sorry."
Skii bit her lip slightly embarrassed hopefully this girl was not already thinking she was crazy. Skii pushed back her bangs and began to look herself over. Her hair must be a mess and her knee was beginning to bleed. Skii reached over to see if she had packed any band-aids.
"Umm, I'm sorry if you heard any of my rantings." ski grabbed her bag but then it slipped from her fingers. Falling down to the ground with a thud. The contents of her purse when flying. Notebooks went here and there. pens flooded the dirt.
"Oh my GAWD! " Skii let out her frustrations in a squeal. Skii did not know what was going wrong today but she was going to strangle some one!
Making her way sown the tree Skii once again scraped her other knee. She bit her lip through the pain her anger building up. Skii let her bare feet touch the dirt then remembered the cold winds. Her legs were completely exposed from her now only being in a skirt with out tights and blood ran down her newly scrapped knee.
"This is just not my bay... Not my day! " Skii began to pace. She had forgotten about the voice below . Plus, she had yet to see the physical form of the body that had produced the voice. Besides, Skii was much more worried about herself at the moment. It wasn't that Skii was conceded. She was just having a terrible day.
"My goodness! If I could just write something or rehearse something or do something! No! this is dumb!""
Skii got down on her still bleeding knees and started to pick up her things. she shoved notebook after notebook back into her bag.. The thing was she got to a book that had landed in something gross.
"No... NO not that book. Not my play thats almost finished!"
But, it was. The notebook was green and written on the front were the words: Without Life.
"As if my day wasn't already bad." Skii crossed her legs and began to pick up the pens around her. there were at least twenty littering ground around her that she could see. she was pouting feeling very sorry about herself. she had almost forgotten about the voice that had startled her moments ago.

x... ...x... ...x Charly watched the confusion from her perch sleepily, not at all sure what the hubbub was about. Not many things bothered her--unpleasant circumstances came and went and it was silly to dwell on them or let them ruin the rest of your situation. However, she knew very well how one instance of bad luck had the potential to bring someone down if their mind wasn't steeled for it.
Silently, she observed the bag fall to the ground and the ensuing chaos that disturbed the neighboring tree. The stranger climbed back down to the forest floor, and seemed to be having a terribly difficult time. Charly felt a twinge of empathy for the girl, and wanted to help her, but the volume of her complaints were resounding in her sensitive ears and it was hard to focus. Not one to whine, she leaned a bit farther out of her tree cradle and called out again in a docile tone,
"Hold on, I'm coming." It seemed that this young girl needed all of the help she could get. Plus, it wouldn't hurt for awkward Charly to try and make friends, and practice her humanity.
While watching Charly climb up a tree was like watching an ivy grow up the trunk--quick and calculated with every movement, watching her climb back down was like watching rainwater cascading down from the canopy--natural and fluid. In a moment's time, she was crouching on the loamy ground, her back turned to the stranger as she scraped at the exposed root of her favorite tree.
She turned and stood upright finally, revealing her petite and waifish stature as she walked toward the girl with unblinking eyes. She rolled a caramel-colored, sticky substance between her bony fingers for a moment before slipping into her mouth for a quick chew--she smacked noisily as it stuck to her teeth.
Still without an introduction, Charly pulled the wet, gooey mass out of her mouth and held it out to the younger girl. "Put this on your knee. This is the Breadfruit Tree's gift to you; it will make your scrape stop bleeding and keep infections away." She stared widely at the girl as she offered the latex paste, as if there was nothing strange at all about giving someone the equivalent of your used gum.
Yawning slightly, the excitement of the past few minutes taxing her already sleep-deprived mind, Charly decided that maybe giving the girl her name would put her more at ease. "I am Charly Powers. I go to the University and there, I study photography. I am twenty-one years old and from Madagascar. My shift is an aye-aye."
It was normal for her to divulge so much information without being asked--it made sense to go ahead and get it out of the way to spare everyone from the customary chit-chat that usually happened when meeting someone new. Charly may be weird, but she was also very efficient.

"Hold on, I'm coming."
There it was that voice again. At least Skii wasn't imagining things too today. The down side with the voice being real was that now she was going to be seen by a person. Skii began to freak . She gnawed on the inside of her cheek not sure what to do about her appearance.
Then the girl became visable. Skii dropped the pens she had collected and blinked a few times...
"Put this on your knee. This is the Breadfruit Tree's gift to you; it will make your scrape stop bleeding and keep infections away."
Skii scowled. The girl had spit out brown gook from her mouth. And now... NOW the girl was offering her the gook to put on her knee. Skii Shook her head slightly disturbed.she was now slightly creeped out. The girl was just slightly weird and Skii didn't quite know what to do.
Skii has dealt with many the strange people in theatre. But this girl was just different. People don't just offer gook thy eject from their mouths...
"I am Charly Powers. I go to the University and there, I study photography. I am twenty-one years old and from Madagascar. My shift is an aye-aye."
Skii was now even more puzzled. The girl had almost given her a written speal Skii Chewed on her lip wondering how she should respond to Charly....
"Um, Hi Charly.. I'm Skii-Lynne Rose Reeve. But I'm usually called Skii Rose... or just Skii. i'm... um fifteen. I am majoring in Theatre arts.. because I'm an actress... but I also write... A LOT... If you can't tell by all the notebooks and pens."
Skii flatten her skit down and pulled her bangs over to the side. She was still kind of shocked by Charly facade....
"I'll have to pass on the tree gift stuff." Skii gave a slight smile. "Oh and I shift into an ocelot... I don't think I missed anything besides that I'm having an awful day if you can't tell... I'm not usually like this. In fact this is the First writers block I've had since I got here..."

x... ...x... ...x As soon as the girl's eyes laid on her, Charly knew that she was already coming off as ...well, off. She really didn't understand why everyone seemed to find her creepy; she fashioned herself as a peaceful, friendly individual with interesting quirks. Most of the time, she could look past the fact that she was considered creepy, but if was beginning to become a hindrance in her social life. She felt a bitter taste in her throat as she picked up more disturbed vibes, but she kept her cool. Charly always kept her cool.
Obviously, the girl was not pleased with her gift; she didn't have to say so for Charly to pick up on that fact. The distasteful look was enough to make her lower her hand away while the girl spoke. The skeletal girl listened intently, concentrating on the name--Skii, and committing her facts to memory in case they happened to cross paths again at some point.
"I like ocelots," she mused aloud, her gaze roaming the tree canopy overhead and her voice reflecting a dreamlike state. "They have nice eyes, I think. I've always wanted to touch their whiskers, but I don't think that they would like it too much."
When she finished, she looked down at her hand with the sticky ball still plastered to it, and after a moment's thought she popped it back into her mouth and continued to chew it. The sap had left residue on her fingers, and she brought them close to her face so that she could watch them stick together and pull apart, in fascination.
"Why did you take off your pants?" she asked curiously, still intently staring at her fingers. She had not been paying attention to Skii before her outburst in the tree, so she wouldn't have even known the girl had been wearing tights at some point if she hadn't seen them lying in a heap out of the corner of her eye.
In the back of her mind, Charly wondered why girls wore such things as skirts. They weren't very versatile, and had to be terribly drafty. Indeed, Skii was dressed much more nicely than the waif that stood before her--it was rare to catch Charly wearing anything other than pajama pants and plain fitted tee shirts.
Her eyes were tired from lack of sleep, and she eventually lost the ability to focus completely on her sticky fingers. When she felt a twitch in her left eye, signifying the extent of their abilities for the moment, she finally lowered her fingers from her face and stared once again at the other, younger girl as she waited expectantly for an answer.

"I like ocelots. They have nice eyes, I think. I've always wanted to touch their whiskers, but I don't think that they would like it too much."
Skii was slightly confused by Charly's words. She shook her head and gave her best smile. Skii continued to pick up her mess of pens, pencils, and notebooks. She was still mad about her writers block and day. But it seemed that Charly was now distracting her. IT was good... Well, It was better than Skii wanting to wring someones neck.
When she stood, dirt fell from Skii's skin. Her knees were slightly crusted with blood and the only thing Skii wanted was a bath. She felt as though she was dirty and groos. She had been always been told to look professional where ever she went. It was the one rule she fallowed that her parents had beat into her. Well, her father at least.
Skii gagged some when Charly put the brown goop back in her mouth. Ick. Skii wasn't one for eating anyways. She didn't understand how the girl would like something sooo unsanitary.
Skii flung her bag over her shhoulder and watched the girl play with her fingers. It was so odd. Skii brushed off her skirt and worked on her picking off the dirt of her legs. She really needed a bath. Then she looked at hte bottom of her feet. They were black with dirt.
No way was Skii going to put her dirty feet inot her good shoes. She walked around the tree and found her shoes. Then she rembered her tights and went looking for them. Charly was still playing with the gook on her fingers. Skii shivered.... This was odd. Just plain odd.
"Why did you take off your pants?"
Skii snapped back to reality. She was slightly ashamed of thinking so badly about Charly she was just mearly diferent. Skii was also embarrased about her tights. She saw them on the ground and went to them... She shoved then into her back then turened to Charly.
"I didn't take off my pant... They were... are tights. They caught on the bark of the tree when I was climbing. I took them off so I wouldn't get caught up again. PLus I was kind of mad."
Skii brushed her bangs out of her face again... Knowing her hair was screwed up and she looked awful.
"And I'm really sorry... If I seem moody and about my appearance. I'm not usually like this. It's just I have nothing to work on at the moment. No lines to memorize and my mind decided I have nothing to write either. I usually look better too. Not that I'm shallow... Ugh I'm usually a lot better spoken too!"
Skii walked over to the tree and leaned on it. She was so mad at her self and just feeling bumed. Skii let the bark cath her sweater. She figured she shouldn't be any more rude than she was and stay and talk with this odd girl for a while at least.

x... ...x... ...x With wide eyes she watched Skii move from one place to the next as she gathered her things. The waif felt bad for her--if she had dropped all of her camera accessories into a mud puddle, she would not be in a very good mood at all. She decided to help.
She realized that her fingers were still a bit sticky, so she wiped them against the bark of her breadfruit tree, reveling in the texture of the trunk as it scraped against her fingers roughly. It felt so nice that she did it once more for no reason, and then again, until she was literally petting the tree.
She hadn't forgotten about Skii, of course. "I think you're pretty--like an ocelot, I guess." she wondered aloud, her large eyes roaming up the side of the tree into the canopy again. Though immensely tired, Charly could not fight the animal urge to climb back up again. That was when all thoughts of helping Skii were lost.
In just a few smooth movements, she was already about ten feet up the trunk, straddling a hefty limb and swinging her thin legs beneath it. Though she was further away from the other girl, her voice did not rise in volume to reflect the fact, and she continued to speak in a soft, whimsical tone.
"What do you write about?" Charly was genuinely curious about this--in fact, this was probably the longest she had talked with any students since enrolling for her freshman year--which had been nearly two years ago. She would freely admit it; she was very excited to be in a conversation.
The breadfruit tree held a small, spiny fruit before her, and she couldn't resist the temptation. Plucking it with both hands, she brought it to her face and stared at it for a while, as she had stared at her sticky fingers earlier. Turning it in her hands, she relished the spongy feel of the large berry and wished that she had brought her Polaroid that day so that she could take a picture of it.
Charly had no intention of eating the fruit--not at that moment, anyway. Instead, she leaned back against the trunk of the tree and cradled it in her arms next to her chest, resting her chin ontop of it and staring ahead with her large eyes. Besides, she was still chewing fervently on the brown sap.
It occurred to her then that she had been about to do something before she climbed the tree--but for the life of her, she couldn't remember what it was. Ah, well.

Now Charly was petting a tree. Skii shook her head. That was slightly childish. This girl seemed to have troubles focusing and was just odd all the way around. Charly.. at least to Skii was acting like a five year old.
Skii smoothed her skirt and watched to confused girl pet the tree. She didn't feel like leaving was going to help anyone or anything so she stayed... And she was glad she did Because she had spot one of her favorite pens left in the dirt.
"I think you're pretty--like an ocelot, I guess."
Skii stopped in her tracks and blinked. She wasn't quite sure Charly was talking to her.
'Th- thanks?'
Though what Skii said was lost on the girl. She was already far up in the tree. Yes, Charly had climbed the tree and was father then Skii had been. Actually Charly had surpassed the branch Skii had sat and went a few more feet. This made Skii smile. Which was a change for the day she had been having. Skii and Charly at least had one thing in common. They both liked climbing trees.
Skii made her way over to her pen and picked it up. She brushed the dirt off of it and smiled stashing it in her bag.
"What do you write about?
Charly's question was barely a whisper in Skii's ears. She almost thought it the wind. Skii turned and tugged on her bag wondering if she should climb the tree again. WHY, NOT?
"Well," Skii began as she hoisted herself up the tree. "I write about whatever comes to me you know. I have one musical I'm writing... Numerous books and some plays. Plus I write poems... When I have muse."
Skii climbed up so she was only a few branches below Charly... She watched as the girl played with a spiney fruit.
"Sometimes... I write about shifting and my life.... It's so much like a story anyways.... What do you take pictures of?"

x... ...x... ...x "I like to take pictures of things," she stated simply, not realizing how vague the sentence was. Though, after contemplating a moment in silence, she continued on. "Things like rust and mold, and things that are decaying, and little things like cracks in the sidewalk."
Charly continued to talk, staring ahead vacantly. It was as if her brain were on auto-pilot, as she was far too tired to control her thoughts on her own. "I like the way that things feel; and I like looking at the way that things feel, too. Like this fruit--you know that it's spiky, because you see the spikes, but until you touch it you have no idea that it's actually very soft and spongy. I would take a picture of this fruit because it is deceptive. I think it's neat."
She yawned then, leaning her head back against the tree to take in a deep breath and then exhale. One hand left the fruit momentarily to rub at her continually tiring eyes. The dark circles beneath them seemed to have gotten progressively darker since she had climbed up the tree mere minutes before. One thing was for certain--she would be taking a nap as soon as she made it to her apartment, if not before then. The unexpected arrival of Skii had set her plans back a bit.
Oh, Skii. She had forgotten about Skii for a second. Glancing down sleepily, she noticed that Skii was just a few feet below her now, and she was pleased. She hadn't expected the other girl to stick around this long, much less climb up into the same tree as herself. "Do you want to hold this fruit?" she asked in a friendly tone, actually turning her head to look at Skii as she asked. Just as she had held out the sap ball before, she extended the spiny fruit to the other girl with one hand. It may have seemed a strange gesture to anyone else, but offering someone a fruit in her home village was culturally an act of friendship.
Occasionally, Charly wished for friends--or at least acquaintances. Though she normally worked alone, she always enjoyed the company of others; situations of that sort were hard to come by, however.
